Captain (Dr.) Idahosa Wells Okunbo (JP), (“Capt Hosa”), was born on January 7th, 1958 in Oredo Local Government Area, Benin City, Edo State, to the family of Rev. Robert Amos Okunbo, a distinguished clergyman. Capt Hosa had his primary education at Government Primary School, Benin City and thereafter attended the prestigious Federal Government College, Warri for his secondary education .

He subsequently attended the Nigerian Civil Aviation Training Centre, Zaria, Kaduna State and became a commercial pilot in 1979 at the tender age of 21 and later attended the ACME School of Aeronautics in Fort Worth, Texas where he obtained the Airline Transport Pilot License, the highest achievement of pilot certification requiring 1500 hours of total flight time at the age of 25 at which point he became a Captain.

By the age of 30, he had logged in over 7,000 hours of incident-free flying time as a commercial pilot with Intercontinental Airlines and Okada Airlines. Upon retiring, encouraged by the expertise, experience and exposure he had garnered from the aviation industry, he set about establishing a chain of businesses in the Energy, maritime, security, hospitality, real estate and agriculture sectors, amongst others.

In 1986, “Cappi”, as he was fondly called, established Hoslyn Ventures Nigeria Ltd to engage in engineering procurement and construction (EPC) contracts in Nigeria. The company was also one of the first indigenous companies to contract with the major refineries in Nigeria, and also the Nigerian Petroleum Development Company (NPDC).

He founded Ocean Marine Security Limited to provide world-class security solutions for offshore production facilities for the major oil companies operating in the country and also for the Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC). Ocean Marine Security Limited recently completed the construction of the 29-mile Escravos–Warri Crude Pipeline, which was launched by the then Minister of State for Petroleum, Emmanuel Ibe Kachikwu.

Captain Hosa also founded Ocean Marine Solutions Tankers Ltd, which operates Nigeria's first indigenous marine tankers and has played an important support role in the level of oil production and distribution in Nigeria.
